
How can artificial intelligence change the destiny of Chhattisgarh?
I believe this should be one of the most important questions we ask today. AI is not simply another commodity or productivity tool. It is fundamentally changing how countries produce, how companies operate, how people learn, and ultimately where economic value is created.
For Chhattisgarh, this creates an extraordinary opportunity. The state already possesses many of the raw ingredients required for the next industrial revolution. The question is whether we can connect them. I see this opportunity through three major pillars: Energy, Industrial Infrastructure, and Human Capital.
From an Energy State to an AI Infrastructure State
Chhattisgarh has historically been one of India’s important centers for power generation and energy-intensive industries. But the next question should be:
Can Chhattisgarh use its energy advantage to power the AI economy?
Artificial intelligence requires enormous computing infrastructure. Computing infrastructure requires data centers. And data centers require enormous amounts of reliable energy. Instead of looking at ourselves simply as a state that produces electricity for industries and other regions, we should ask whether Chhattisgarh can become a destination for the infrastructure powering India’s AI economy.
That means thinking about renewable and conventional energy together, grid reliability, water availability, fiber connectivity, data-center parks, AI computing infrastructure and the policies necessary to attract long-term technology investment. Our energy advantage should become our computing advantage.
From Minerals and Metallurgy to Advanced Technology Manufacturing
Chhattisgarh’s second advantage is its industrial foundation. For decades, we have built expertise around minerals, mining, steel, power and metallurgy.
The AI era gives us an opportunity to rethink what these capabilities can become.
Can we develop new materials and metallurgical capabilities required by advanced electronics?
Can our universities and industries establish advanced materials laboratories and fabrication research facilities?
Can AI transform mining, steel production, energy efficiency, industrial safety and materials science?
And ultimately, can Chhattisgarh move from being primarily a supplier of raw materials to becoming a creator of high-value intellectual property, advanced materials and technology?
We should not abandon our industrial identity. We should upgrade it.
From Talent Consumer to Global Talent Producer
The third pillar is perhaps the most important: people.
Businesses will go where talent exists. If Chhattisgarh wants technology companies, AI companies, research centers, data centers and advanced manufacturing facilities to establish operations in the state, we must first create an extraordinary talent ecosystem.
But that transformation cannot begin after graduation. It cannot even begin in college. It must begin in school. A child studying in a government school in Bhilai, Raipur, Bastar, Bilaspur or any small town in Chhattisgarh should have the ability to imagine becoming an AI engineer, scientist, researcher or entrepreneur.
Our education system therefore needs to move beyond simply transferring information. Information is becoming increasingly accessible. We need to teach children how to think, question, experiment, build and create. Students should understand AI. But equally importantly, they should understand entrepreneurship, problem solving, communication, creativity and the entrepreneurial mindset.
The objective should not simply be:
“How do we make our students employable?”
The bigger question should be:
“How do we make the world’s companies want the talent coming out of Chhattisgarh?”
If we accomplish that, Chhattisgarh can become an exporter of intellectual capital to the world.
The Missing Link: Teachers + Students + Industry
Students alone cannot create this transformation.
Teachers need to transform alongside them. Imagine an ecosystem where teachers continuously receive exposure to emerging technologies, students work on real industry problems, and companies interact with schools and universities before students graduate.
This creates a powerful triangle:
Teachers → Students → Industry
Teachers develop capability. Students develop curiosity and practical skills. Industry provides real-world problems, mentorship and opportunities. Education then stops being isolated from economic development. It becomes the engine of economic development. Government Must Become the Fourth Force
There is one more participant that determines whether all of this happens: government. Policymakers do not necessarily need to build every technology company or training institution themselves. Their responsibility is to create the environment in which thousands of people can build them. That requires simpler processes, transparent policies, faster approvals, accessible information and measurable outcomes.
Entrepreneurs and businesses should understand exactly what incentives exist, how decisions are made and how they can participate.
Transparency creates trust.
Trust attracts entrepreneurs.
Entrepreneurs create companies.
Companies create jobs.
And jobs create prosperity.
A New Economic Flywheel for Chhattisgarh
The opportunity can therefore be summarized through a simple economic flywheel:
Energy → Compute → Industry → Talent → Companies → Jobs → Innovation → Investment
Chhattisgarh already possesses energy, minerals, industrial infrastructure and millions of young people.
What we need is the connecting layer.
Artificial intelligence can become that layer. Imagine Chhattisgarh becoming a state that powers India’s data centers, develops advanced materials, applies AI to mining and manufacturing, produces world-class AI talent, builds startups and exports skilled professionals around the world.
That would fundamentally change the economic trajectory of the state.
Chhattisgarh does not have to become another Bengaluru. It does not have to become another Hyderabad. It should build something based on its own strengths.
An energy-rich, industrially intelligent, AI-powered and talent-first economy.
The states that win the AI era will not necessarily be the states that have the most technology companies today. They will be the states that recognize their unique advantages early and build an ecosystem around them. Chhattisgarh has those advantages. The question is whether we have the ambition to connect them. And if we do, artificial intelligence will not simply change how Chhattisgarh works. It can change the destiny of Chhattisgarh.
